Hannah Weiland has only been showing here at London Fashion Week for two seasons now, but has already created a buzz around her primarily faux fur brand, Shrimps. For Autumn/Winter it took a trip into seventies heaven, but only subtly, with shag style coats and fleecy green oversized jackets – all in any colour from space alien deep green to mustard yellow. Mixed with a space fantasy world – ‘planet Shrimps’ – the floor to ceiling presentation glitter space certainly made an impact.
Shrimps has always been about straight up ready-to-wear and much like the Spring Summer collection I talked about last season here, it’s more or less all about the outerwear. This season it didn’t stop there though and collaborating with none other than Sophia Webster no less, these insanely beautiful boot shoes were born.
Of course Bleach London were brought on board again for AW and Alex Brownsell headed up the team. Inspired by Amanda Lear and channeling a disco 70s look but in a cool, newer modern way, the hair was prepped with the Bleach Swamp Spritz and then dried upside down. Worked through with a medium sized tong, they were made into super tight curls then pinned to the head. The most beautiful – and most iconic 70s part of this whole thing for me – was the fringe, which was done by using a smaller tong, and curled at the top for a clear ‘M’ shape. They teased it with their fingers at the root and secured with hairspray.
On makeup was HD Brows and Lauren Parsons returned again for a second season – seriously this whole team is just absolutely genius in my opinion – and they were showcasing a new, yet to be released lip product. It’s an orange toned red, and it kinda counteracted every single colour in Hannah’s AW collection, which is kinda why it worked. It was an effortless beauty look, with a luminous skin, no mascara and only a bit of highlighter on the bridge of the nose. An interesting detail to note was that the soft eyeshadow was applied in a 70s style, which is kinda like a blended out ‘egg’ shape, which makes that really strong vintage look.
Nails were a mix of Maybelline’s Wow Orange, Midnight Taupe and Candy Apple Red – that nail tech Michelle Humphreys oh-so-carefully mixed into a new bottle to make as she called, a terracotta nail that was ‘a bit wrong but quirky, in the best way.’ Insanely 70s. I dig.
I swear, Shrimps is the cool girl gang that i’m just head over heels in love with. Crystal buttons, PVC details and fluffy shoes all brought together with bold, bright faux furs? I couldn’t love it more if I tried. What do you think of Shrimps AW15 presentation? I wish I could get my hair like that!
